Just so everyone knows we are still in the process of conducting tests. It is likely this will take another month or 2 as well, we will email or write a long post outlining the results once we have them. But as we all know algorithms are slow when you need to test every tiny step you take. Hope everyone will enjoy the results.
Today marks the first post of our first case study. We are going to be looking into Amazon and how their algo works. Amazon if you didn’t know is the biggest online seller in the world with turnovers well into 10 figures. But their main value comes from how easy it is to shop on the site. As you probably already know you are click a few buttons, checkout and have your product the next day in a very streamlined and quick process. That’s why they have been so successful over the years and will most likely be successful in the future too.
In this post we are going to test what seo Amazon uses and if it is possible to “game the system” similar to what search companies have been trying to do with Google for decades. We have the help of a consultant linked above as well who thinks it is possible to improve rankings with strong optimisation. And we also have a number of other experts in different data and technical positions which we can call on should we have any problems with listings or products themselves.
To get started we have to system a product, for this we are keeping the product selection secret until the case study is complete. Then we will reveal the results, whether these be positive or negative. If you like this style of case study then we will likely keep it going. Previously we implemented video case studies but had issues with the speed of uploads. Hence nowadays I think I will just keep it going with this technique. Anyway I hope you are ready for our first ever study and I will give you an update next week!
But before we get started with exactly what is going to happen on this blog, which by the way is going to be a lot of great, useful, usable tips you can implement into your own marketing. I wanted to take a minute to explain what marketing case studies are and more importantly why they are useful, or another way of saying it, why should you care?
Well a marketing case study is a tracked, both analytically and profitability wise test that a company runs. You see it more frequency with big firms but it is also getting more common wti smaller eCommerce websites that want to improve conversions.
Essentially they will run a specific marketing channel or technique for a certain period of time. After this period of time they will review the effectiveness of the strategy, and then continue to tweak and retest theories until they have the most efficient, both time and profit wise, technique to implement into their long term branding and marketing goals.
These are also the most useful for external use (such as us) as we can see exactly what caused what and don’t need to guess when it comes to our own marketing campaigns.
The first case study will be written in the coming weeks. Until then I recommend trying to organise your own and if you are successful feel free to get in touch with Ouirrh marketing institute and we would love to have you write a guest post!
